The August/September curriculum may include many items which could be review for your child. Children have a tendency to forget things over the summer. Please keep in mind that the curriculum is a flexible one. This is to due the fact that each class, as well as each child, learn at individual rates.

Math

  • Proper formation of numerals
  • Numbers to 30--comparing and ordering numbers
  • Pattern sequencing
  • Recognition of number words
  • Matching sets
  • Ordinals
  • Sums to 8
  • Adding in any order
  • Using data from a picture for problem solving application

Language Arts

Word analysis, Fluency, and Systematic Vocabulary Development

  • Identify letters, words and sentences
  • Distinguish initial, medial, and final sounds in single-syllable words
  • Create and state a series of rhyming words
  • Blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words (e.g.,/c/a/t/=cat)
  • Generate the sounds from all the letters and letter patterns and blend those sounds into recognizable words

Reading Comprehension

  • Respond to who, what, when, where, and how questions
  • Use context to resolve ambiguities about word and sentence meanings
  • Confirm predictions about what will happen next in a story
  • Retell the central ideas of simple passages

Literary Response and Analysis

  • Identify and describe the elements of plot, setting, character(s) in a story, as well as the story's beginning, middle and ending

Writing Strategies

  • Print legibly and space letters, words, and sentences appropriately

Written and Oral English Conventions

  • Speak in complete, coherent sentences
  • Use knowledge of the basic rules of punctuation and capitalization when writing

Listening and Peaking Strategies

  • Listen attentively
  • Ask questions for clarification and understanding
  • Recite poems, rhymes, songs and stories

Science

  • Living and non-living things
  • The five senses

Social Sciences

  • New at school
